Assad Serhal from Lebanon wins the Midori Prize

This year one of the winners of the prestigious Midori Prize is our good friend from the Middle East, Assad Serhal, Director General of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (BirdLife Lebanon). Assad’s nomination was supported by several organisations including OSME. The prize comes with an award of $100,000 and the details of Assad’s achievements and those of the other two prize winners can be found in this link on the SPNL website:

OSME members will, I’m sure, enjoy seeing a photo of a youthful Assad and Mike Evans in 1994 at the launch of BirdLife’s Important Bird Areas in the Middle East, which OSME sponsored and which has played such an important role in conservation in the region.
